SolTech Energy wins prize for innovation
A “Quality Innovation Award” is an honor annually given to businesses or private individuals who have presented innovations that have a clearly recognized connection to conscious systemization in the work carried out, and with the starting point of such work having been a clearly identified customer need. Of deciding weight in winning this honor are the innovation’s degree of newness, usefulness, teaching, customer orientation and degree of functionality.
SolTech Energy has received a prize for “ShingEl”, a roof panel with integrated solar cells that replaces a traditional roofing. ShingEl won in the classification – Responsible & Renewable innovations.
The Swedish 2018 Quality Innovation Award prize ceremony will take place on February 7, 2019 at the Bonnier Conference Center in Stockholm. Thereafter, on February 27 and 28, 2019, the international prize ceremony will be held in Peking with the winners from the respective participating countries in attendance. The Award is the result of a joint cooperative arrangement among quality institutions in several nations. SIQ’s (Swedish Institute for Quality) partners in Sweden are Vinnova and Deloitte Sweden – both organizations are members of SIQ.
The jury’s motivation:
SolTech Energy has developed ShingEl, with integrated solar cell technology that replaces other roof material. Instead of laying a heavy panel over the roof, solar cells are integrated in the roof itself. In addition to savings in terms material, the overall value of the building is raised by the installation of a significantly cleaner more esthetically pleasing roof. Moreover, the energy produced can be applied against the buidling’s operational costs, and all surplus electricity can be sold back to the network supplier. During the development process a great deal of weight was given to environmental considerations and a life-cycle perspective. As a result, fully 90% of the building integrated solar cell panel is recyclable. The roof system tolerates snow and is tested to withstand the Nordic climate. In addition, it is strong enough to stand and walk on, and is even stronger than traditional concrete roofing tile.
Stefan Ölander, CEO SolTech Energy:
”It is with great pleasure that we accept this prize. It is proof that we lie right in time with our products. Anna Svensson, who has led the development and production of SolTech ShingEl, had done a fantastic job. Her devotion and knowhow have contributed to our having the honor of receiving this fine prize.”
