The SolTech Alfa System is installed in accordance with traditional installation principles for tiled roof at a cost that only slightly exceeds that of a conventional roof.
When insatalling a SolTech Alfa System on an existing house the old roof isreplaced. The traditional roof tiles are taken down, the battens and underlay as well, including any nails. When the roof is cleared, the new SolTech System can be installed.
Underlay
The SolTech specific underlay placed first onto the cleared roof. The underlay is waterproof but allows vapor to pass through it. This means that it lets moist through but not water. This underlay works as traditional underlay and is tested, approved and rated for use as such.
Air columns

The air column created by a number of beams, which allow air to circulate across the entire surface of the roof. With the system and the way we circulate the air being based on self-circulation through the so-called thermal imbalance, we utilize the entire surface optimally. The thermal imbalance is based on the simple basic principle that hot air rises. In our installations, we help the airflow with a fan to circulate air.
Absorption fabric

The special light-absorbing fabric is woven of technical nylon fibers and coated with a light absorbing layer. The fabric is tear- and age resistant and has an extremely good heat transfer capability of the air column beneath. The canvas is also completely water and vapor proof so that all roofs with SolTech Alfa has a double sealing layer to protect against water leakage.
Roofing with glass roof tiles
Glass roof tiles, which is the result of years of research and development at KTH and SolTech Energy, are double bend and consistent with traditional building standards. The Tiles are laid the roof in the same manner as traditional concrete double bend tiles are, and can, if necessary, be storm secured with special clips that are easy to install.

Glass roof tiles have a longer life span than conventional roof tiles in clay or concrete, since the glass is UV resistant and has a high resistance to erosion. Preliminary tests show a further positive effect, in winter, when snow falls on the roofs, the system will help keep the roof free of snow. This is done by the sun heating the absorption fabric and the heat generated melts the snow on the tiles. Since the tiles have a smooth surface, snow will slide off the tiles and the roof is ready to generate more heat to the house again.
